Local newspapers will be hurt by Google & Yahoo

As I've stated before, local advertising is going to be hurt by Google, Yahoo and others since they have implemented local results. When people are doing a search, they will see listings for some local companies related to the search you did. Here's an article that explains it a little further. This is a trend to watch but it also emphasizes that companies must also make their website easier to find for local searchers. 

Local newspapers will be affected by this as more people decide to put their ad dollars toward search marketing or paid listings online. I believe that this competition is good but also is a major shift in how businesses go to market.

"Both Google and Yahoo are becoming aware of the opportunities in local search and are rolling out improvements designed to make it easier to locate local businesses, and to improve the ways advertisers target local users. The report claims traditional local advertisers, such as plumbers, restaurants and dry cleaners, are increasingly using online portals, instead of local papers, to promote their services."
