Google still rides high.

There have been some statistics out that Google isresponsible for half of all search referrals to web sites. It seems that they've grown in popularity over Yahoo and MSN. I guess this isn't really a big surprise as Google has dominated people's thinking regarding search. They were really the first ones to have a comprehensive search that was based on an algorithm rather than on directory results like Yahoo. Google continues to come out with great products too which only enhance its standing amongst the searching public.

Although their number one right now, that doesn't mean that they'll stay there as there's much competition in the marketplace. Just as they started out small and passed up the other guys through better technology, so can the others do to them. But with such a great head start over the other competitors, one wonders how they could beat beat at anything when you take a look at Google Labs. What this means for people promoting their web sites is that they need to be aware of Google's presence and results. To ignore them right now is to ignore about half the searching public here in America and more overseas. Of course, no good web site owner would want to ignore any of the search properties as were talking about great numbers of people here. But it's important to have a good results with Google more than anything right now.
