A sense of discovery.

Website marketing should have a goal but that's not everything.

My family and I have gone on vacation this week getting away from all the concerns about online business. I'm jotting this note to say that there is a time to walk away from what you do to be who you are. The nice thing about good web marketing is that it can be such a personal thing if you want it to be.  Right now this note comes to you from a wonderful forest filled deck in the Wisconsin Dells area. It's peaceful, although there are many other people at the resort too. It's amazing how they made this feel like you're alone, personal even when you're not the only one there. The crows are making their lonely sounds this morning calling to one another. The sun is coming through the trees in a shaft of light and it's a little on the chilly side this morning. The pine trees give off a fresh aroma that is cleansing to my soul.

It's nice to have no internet connection this whole week. My web marketing efforts at my company have been working well, but that doesn't mean there's not a reason to be concerned. Web marketing can be a very fickle enterprise and hard to see the whole picture. There is so much to know that is details, just like the beauty that God makes out on this deck in heavily wooded surroundings. The truth is that God makes it all possible. Ultimately, I owe everything I am and will be to the God who gives me life and freely gives us all things to enjoy. It's those details that He paid attention to that give us a pattern to follow. God is a God of order and yet there is a feeling of randomness in the creation. Even the random beauty of creation has an underlying order.

In the same way, web marketing of any type shouldn't seem too contrived although it may be. It needs to have the appearance of discovery while at the same time guiding people in an orderly fashion. Sometimes we're too directed, too closed in on one goal to the detriment of letting our human qualities come through. It can be the same for good web marketing. We must make it feel natural and good without being schlocky. It's that schlock that makes most websites poor like endless links or useless copied information. It’s always an area where we can improve and that is my goal.

Everyone is waking up now and things won't be as peaceful but they'll be fun! We're doing the waterpark at the resort today. It's a great place to visit and relax. I’m sure that this week I'll find some new way to express good web marketing and I'll be writing about it. Find the beauty that God blessed you with this day. Think about randomness with order and give your visitors something to discover.
