Better to be humble for online success.

To get good web marketing results, an honest appraisal about your business or website helps.

Human beings are the only creatures in our world that are insanely aware of themselves. They also believe better things about themselves than is probably justified. What do I mean and what does that have to do with web marketing results? Here's what I mean. People's need to puff up their situation to make it look better or make themselves look like they have all the answers or feel they must be right, ruins good web marketing results. When it comes right down to it, none of us can be right all the time or have all the answers, but when you think you do, your website will look that way too. Your website will have an arrogance which repels people. This problem can totally derail your marketing efforts and you'll actually be fighting yourself!

Whenever I've worked on a website and gotten too high minded, like I was 324% better than the competition, visitor interest would drop even if my numbers on traffic were up. Do you know what the real secret is? People don't like arrogant, snobby, holier than thou, know-it-alls who talk down to them. That's why your website should have an element of humbleness. It's Biblical, like when God says "He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble" Proverbs 3:34. When desiring good web marketing results, make an honest appraisal of who you are and what you do online. Most of the time, it's not life saving, so keep things in perspective. You're just trying to make a living and help out your fellow man with what you offer.

If you notice the flavor of this website, you'll see that I am a one-person freelancer who does know about getting better search marketing results. Do I know everything? No. Am I learning more everyday? Yes. Am I trying to portray this as a big operation? No. I'm just being honest and truthful about who I am and this website. See how that works? Isn't that disarming to people who might be skeptical? I will always believe that people appreciate that and will work with humble people long before working with arrogant individuals. By the way, the picture you see on every page of myself sitting on an old wagon, it's all part of identifying people with who I really am. My son took that picture while we were on a church retreat and it sums up how I want people to see me. I'm just a regular guy who likes to be outdoors, enjoys nature and likes a brown bag lunch! Try some of this attitude on your site and you'll find that all the money you've been pouring into marketing will have a better result.

Some would say that people might be turned off by such things, they think you should be more serious and portray a more professional image. Well, there's enough of that on this website and probably many other websites too. The problem with that is that people don't believe hype anyway and are always skeptical, so a dose of honesty and humbleness goes a long way to humanize your business and website. Don't be afraid to be what you are, the way God made you. I call this humble marketing. This stands in contrast to the kind of marketing you see constantly online. Remember that the biggest lie in business is this: we are the best.

Great web marketing results are a result of many, many different factors and being honest with people is one of them. Be humble about what your website is doing and don't hide it. Visitors will appreciate it and will turn your marketing efforts into a success.
