One
of the great aspects of web marketing is the ability
to be found by all types of people. You'll find that
students may visit your site for research, casual
visitors just for a look and potential business
customers to buy something. Of course, this can be a
blessing and a curse as you may get traffic from
places you don't care about. The trick is to tailor
your offering to meet the informational needs of
people looking for what you have to offer. I focus
on web marketing for business because it has a
payoff and is probably the most challenging.
One
of the most common mistakes that webmasters make
when promoting a website is that they have spread
their vision too much. What do I mean? It's like
those company mission statements that boldly assert:
"We endeavor to be the leader in our industry
providing solutions for consumers. We are customer
focused delivering the highest quality products at a
fair price". Totally meaningless. How can you
hit a target when you're generically aiming at
everything? When web marketing a product or service
for a business, there are several things to think
about.
How
can you more effectively market to business online?
-
Think
about the reasons some business people may want
to visit your site in the first place. If people
are coming to your site hoping for a bargain on
office supplies, then you better have a few
discount sales. If they want the best digital
camera for product photography, you need to have
the right answers and stock, the price is
probably not as important. What I'm saying is
that you need to decide on what kind of website
you will be. Business people are usually on
target and are not easily swayed from their
quest. They want to know what you offer in a
clear, unambiguous fashion. Decide ahead of time
what type of business you're catering to.
-
When
writing copy for business people, use a direct style of writing.
Tell them what they need to know without too
much story telling unless it is directly related
to the product or service performance. I know
this goes against some of the other things I've
said in other articles, but if you're looking to
increase sales to business, you need to be more
direct. Remember that most office workers today
don't have a lot of time to waste these days and
a lot of them want to get in and out with what
they need.
-
Offer
a come-back coupon after they've placed an order
with you online. It's an enticement to come back
and order again which establishes a good
business relationship. Many business people
don't change vendors very often if something is
working right, so reinforce that ongoing
relationship with other goodies.
-
Post
some helpful information about how your product
or service relates to their industry. This may
take a little research, but it will greatly help
your web marketing for business results.
-
Think
about testimonials from satisfied customers.
This helps business people who are sometimes
risk adverse to feel more comfortable about your
company. Think about buying from a company when
all you have to go on is the website. We've
probably all done it, but doesn't it make you
feel better when you see that there are other
people just like you using a service?
When
web marketing for business, remember that people
need to feel they can trust you. Nobody wants to
explain to the boss, why they used XYZ Company when
there is a problem! So it's important for your website
to show that it is business savvy or at least
business friendly. The items above are just some
ways to get you thinking about web marketing for
business, but there are various ways to reach an
audience of business people.
