What software works for SEO?

Stop wasting money on software packages, they can't get you high rankings by themselves.

One of our faults as human beings is that we want everything but we don't want to work hard for it. You'll see this in almost any human endeavor under the sun. The promise of a quick buck or something for nothing is powerful, just look at all the going on these days. It's the same thing with SEO software. Website owners want to get number one rankings on the search engines, but don't want the toil and sweat that is required to get it. There are websites that sell SEO software that could make you go broke and still not get high rankings online. Why don't these methods work or why do some people claim to have success with them? What is the truth?

First off, no software can totally replace a human being for producing content that is relevant to your visitors but you. That's right, nothing can replace you, not SEO software, not quick ranking schemes, nothing. This can either make you feel elated or quite depressed depending on your level of expertise. I think this should make you feel good though as only you know your website in a special way as no one else does. It's that unique frame of reference that can make the difference between high rankings and website oblivion. When I see the types of SEO software out there that promise the moon, it makes me think I should be selling it too to make some money. But I don't because I know that they don't work. I've tried them in the past and ran some experiments myself with little success. Remember, no automated software can create relevant pages, tags and content, only you can.

There have been some occasions where some SEO software has helped some people get a higher ranking. The reason this can happen is that some of the page design is so poor to start with that anything you do to the page would help it's ranking. These pages were generated by webmasters who had no idea what good search engine content would be. So while I am saying that SEO software is a bad investment, people have had some success for this reason. It doesn't make for a good long-term search engine strategy because the person doing probably doesn't have one.

What most of these SEO software packages have are features like keyword density analyzers, title and meta-tag description and so forth. That's what you get and it doesn't matter what the name of the software is or who made it. It's all basically the same. It's not a bad idea to understand these basic concepts, but SEO software will never do the job because there is so much more to know than what a software package can give you. The web is a much deeper place now than when these software packages were originally developed. But just like government programs, they keep on going and no one ever asks, should they? I guess they will as long as there are desperate people willing to spend good money that should be spent elsewhere in their enterprise to improve their website.

Web marketing is a lot like playing guitar. If you want to do it well, you must practice and learn the instrument from the ground up. If you don't, you'll never play it well and it shows. Of course you can always buy the quickie Esteban guitar package on TV and learn a few songs, but you won't know it deeply. It's the same thing with SEO software to try to get a quick fix. Fight your human nature of wanting something for nothing and improve your website as only you can with the knowledge and perspective that you have.
