Local web marketing and service like Cairo.com

Cairo.com is a new shopping service that focuses on local business sales. It lets shoppers know about sales in their areas and claiming to save anywhere from 30-50%. Here's an article in the East Bay Business Times that talks about the new service.

Cairo.com
According to the article, two thirds os all shoppers who research something online, but it offline at a store.

On their website, they have an explanation of what they do and it's an interesting concept.

"Cairo enables you to find the best sale prices in your town on virtually any kind of product, even groceries. You can use Cairo to find a particular product at a single store in your neighborhood. Or scan the web sites of dozens of retailers near your home to get the best price in your area.

Cairo compares and tracks sale prices of the things you want. So if it’s not on sale today, Cairo will send you an e–mail when it does go on sale. And because Cairo features the largest local retailers, you can buy it today at your local retailer and not pay the shipping or handling charges. You’ll never have to pack something up you don’t like again just to return it to a distant online retailer. "

There are really many people who would rather buy products locally but don't use the yellow pages as much as they use their computer, so this is a natural to find the local business that can help them.

It brings up the concept of local advertising being Internet related in some way. As retailers and marketers of products or services in Minnesota, we all need to be thinking about how to reach our local area with what we have. Many times searchers in local areas don't know that they can't find something near them and buy from half way across the country. Sometimes is makes sense to do that anyway, but according to statistics, people prefer the local angle. The trend in local marketing online will continue to grow as the fight between more traditional advertising avenues and search engines heats up.

There are ways to get more people to find your Minnesota business and you don't have to be at the mercy of the major search engines or a service like Cairo. You can take steps today to make your site more visible to the midwest area. Make sure if you do have traditional ads that they incorporate your website or web links back to you. This would especially true of yellow pages. you can design your website to reflect the Minnesota area too without excluding people at a distance.

Minnesota business and the web.

It may sound odd, but Minnesota is a good place to do business on the web. One of the reasons is that Minnesota has a natural central location in North America. Whether a company ships to other States or Canada, it will usually get their sooner than locations on the east or west coast. When Minnesota businesses want to do a web marketing strategy, it doesn't hurt at all that you're in this State. People generally have a good feeling about the people of Minnesota and if anyone has visited here, they know about our friendly attitude, sometimes called "Minnesota Nice".

There are a lot of companies from our State doing business online successfully and I hope to have some conversations / interviews with those that have done well and how it might help others. The way we go to market here is different than other geographic regions and has a lot to do with our background from the settlers, to the farms, our families and our beliefs about people. I'm excited to look closer at what makes web marketing from Minnesota different.

I love living here in Minnesota in all it's unassuming glory. I hope you get the feeling too as I explore Minnesota web marketing.
