Unlike many search marketing companies, I’m not going to promise you instant results in getting a high search engine ranking. It’s common misconception or people just don’t want to believe that it takes time to develop better results. There are two factors that make for a high search engine ranking, one is time. You must be patient as your site gets spidered by major search engines and is propagated throughout the web. The second factor is creating a website that is valuable or at least useful to people that are doing the searching. That’s it. It’s nothing more than that. Of course, there are many fine details that we can help you with, but these are the main two factors. Once you resign yourself to these, you will be well on the way to working toward a high search engine ranking.  

In the past, search engines could be fooled by doing certain things on your web pages. They would be tricked into giving your website a higher rankings faster than you ever could these days. Well, search engines got smart and began to understand that people could manipulate results and that was blowing any relevancy to the wind. So these quickie techniques that you may have been sold either don’t work, or they can get you banned from the search engines altogether. The level of search engine sophistication will only increase as personalized search and even desktop search makes the scene. So getting listed will be easier in some ways and harder in others, just as it has always been really.

When trying to achieve a high search engine ranking, you must remember your core business, what you have to offer and build off of your given expertise in your field. It doesn’t matter what you sell or offer, you need to be perceived by the casual searcher as a competent company that can fill the need they have responsibly. People don’t even need a lot of flashy graphics or gee-whiz stuff, they want to see you as someone decent to do business with. That’s why website content is so important. Work on content that will convince people of your validity and expert status and they will be drawn to you again and again. By the way, that’s what the search engines are looking to fill their index with, relevant good websites. Give it to them!
