Good copywriting can make the difference.

What are some ways to start creating better website copy?

There was a time when it seemed people had more time to just plain read for the fun of it. I don't know if it's true or not but it feels like it to me. Early in the 20th century, literature was as much as an art form as painting or music. I suppose that was true for earlier times as well, but we seem to have lost that as something society appreciates. My Grandmother has old books full of writings by my ancestors which told a story or expressed a feeling. How unusual that seems today. Good writing is a lost art for most of us! Wouldn't it be better to revive this style and appreciation of the written word by using it online?

When writing copy for your website, you need to think about more than just communicating the idea you need to get across. You need to go beyond the same old language that everyone uses. Why? It's boring. People using the Internet are so used to it that they don't even read the words if it generally starts the same. They skim, skip and scatter all over to get what they want then leave. Can you help them with your product or service while entertaining them a little? Think about writing better copy for your website and you'll most likely have a better chance of them using your services.

What does it take to write more enticing stories with more lively copy? There are several ways to write better copy for your website. First of all, it's time to stop treating your website like a brochure or leaflet. It's true that people want the facts, but they also want to know that the website also has a human face and better yet, a sense of humor. That's why most websites are stale, even a few that I've created for sure. It's easy to just see the web as bullet points and a result. Instead of that, look at your website as an extension of your humanity or the people you work with. Once you start to see that, it's easier to come up with good copywriting for your website because you can share something that is unique to you or your company. Look around, life is much more that facts and figures, so is business. Don't miss it.

Another aspect of better copywriting for the web is to take the time to compose something completely original. Almost anything original beats writing that is essentially lifted from some other websites. It's not just school kids who need to refrain from copy and pasting text, adults do too. Instead of doing something like that, sit down in front of the computer with a blank web page and start writing. You'll find that it's not as difficult as you think once you get going. The main trick is to get started. Don't be concerned about grammar right away, you can change that later. What you're looking to do is release your ideas through written words. Don't be afraid to express feelings, personal thoughts, just get it out. You can always edit the document later.

I'll be sharing more about better copywriting for your website in the future. In the meantime, take a fresh look at what you do looking for ways to express your humanity on the web. It will help your website be more successful and more fun. People that do this will find a greater sense of satisfaction and web visitors will stay around longer.
