Internet Explorer 7 a possibility, but is it relevant?
According to this article and Internet news it looks as though Microsoft may be coming out with a new version of Internet Explorer version 7. Does anyone take the browser that Microsoft puts out seriously anymore? Sure, it's a good idea to come out with a new browser, but they sure cooled their heels after they won the last browser war. It's as if nothing has gone on at Microsoft regarding a new browser in a long time. It seems as though the only time they're interested in upgrading the browser is when there's competition. It's too bad they didn't have the foresight to do this a couple of years ago. Had they done that, they might be in a better position all the way around including the new MSN search. I don't see why this is so difficult for them to do when open-source guys are doing it all the time and doing it well. What do all those Microsoft engineers do during the day?
I would guess that most of the impetus for a new version of Internet Explorer would be some of the security issues which I don't even blame Microsoft for. They are such a big target that hackers just love to attack them and it really isn't fair. But what I think they're really concerned about is a potential Google browser and obviously Firefox. If they don't have a good vehicle to get people on the Internet with, such as a browser, then it could seriously hurt their chances to keep people using them as a portal or search engine. I think Bill Gates finally sees that that is the case and they're moving to get that changed. One should never underestimate Microsoft and their ability to make things happen and push smaller players out of the market. They've done it in the past and they can do it again. It's not because they don't have good products, I think they do have good products. The real problem with them lies in the fact that their people aren't thinking ahead enough, and that may have to do with just typical bureaucratic nonsense in large corporations.
I look forward to any improvements that Microsoft can do to Internet Explorer, which I like. It's still does the best job that running everything that's out there and that's something Microsoft does very well with their browser as well as their operating system. Is it relevant in today's search engine frenzy? You bet it is, and I think competition will help the searching public get more of what they really want, a reliable browser and excellent search results.
