A Google employee fired for blogging.
Evidently there's been a Google employee that has been fired for blogging negatively regarding Google. It could be that he was talking about things he shouldn't have and could have violated his nondisclosure agreement. If that's the case he should be fired, but taking a deeper look at it makes me wonder about how Google thinks about blogging. They have this blogger service which is what I use to do these blogs, but is there really a free flow of information? Especially for those people who are in a corporate situation thinking that they can do and say whatever they want to say, which they can as a matter of free speech. But that doesn't mean they won't suffer the consequences of saying something that the company absolutely does not want them to say. I know that if I said certain things about my company it could be detrimental to the effort. So it's important not to say certain things. I think this whole freedom of information through blogging is great but people need to get a handle on it. It's just like being at dinner and bad-mouthing your boss to his friend, it might cause a problem!
I'm surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. Maybe it doesn't because what people say can't be found very readily. But with search engines spidering blogs, privacy becomes more of a thing of the past when you just blurt out whatever you want to say. I know a situation where somebody blurted out something terrible on a blog and I couldn't believe how callous the person was. It was as if there was no rules regarding good social behavior. I think that's not what blogs are about. I think they're about people sharing their ideas and feelings perhaps trying to influence others to their point of view. But just like anything else, many people take it too far and then they get into trouble.
So I really don't know much about this story other than someone got fired at Google over a certain blog. This kind of thing will probably be repeated again and again in other situations at other companies. Think about the instant capability of blogging and how fast people can get information out. The damage could go around the world in an afternoon and could be devastating to a company or organization that is trying to do something good.Real marketing results for the web, RealWebMarketing.com
