Gmail and the Gbrowser?
From one day to the next the rumors continue to fly as to the possibility of Gmail having a general release and the possibility of a Google browser to compete with Microsoft Internet explorer. As much as people get excited about it, I don't see what the big deal is. A browser, is a browser, is a browser and that's all there is to it. An e-mail program is the same. The main function of an e-mail program is to send and retrieve messages. There is nothing new in these areas, there are only refinements of previously developed technology. It's probably a mistake for Google to get into the browser war or into an e-mail situation where they're mature offerings from other competitors. It doesn't mean it might not make them some money, it might, but it won't be at the level of state Google ads.
If most of these technology companies were smart, they would stick with what they do best and dump the rest. It doesn't really matter if anybody comes out with something new that is basically something old, it won't help. What the market wants are new innovations that will make life easier, save time or money. Until any of these new offerings do that, it really doesn't matter. This is what's been done in many businesses whether you sell copiers or office supplies, there is an expansion into areas of little expertise and believe that because you're successful in one area that you can be successful in any area.
