The copying of content is rampant.

In the Auburn Plainsman, has this article regarding plagiarism and what's going on in academia. They're evidently is a lot of problem with people copying content and claiming it as their own. I'm not surprised that this is happening in high school, but I'm a little shocked that it happens in colleges. Even though it's easy to find content and copy and paste, why would you? Don't you want your studies and what you learned reflect you, not someone else. I guess it's no secret that people have been trying to find the easy way out for almost everything for centuries. It's just like any get rich quick scheme that you find out there as well. People always want the easy route without having any of the hassles of figuring out something yourself.

I think this gets down to really a moral question, are we morally bankrupt in the United States when it comes to original content? I think it's great that there are some web sites that will do checking on content to see if it matches up with something a student has submitted. It's something that we're going to see more and more of in the future. Knowing this about the academic world, you can only imagine what it's like in the cutthroat business world! I think copying of all kinds goes on there on a regular basis without much thought to copyrights. I know of one web site that directly lifted content from my web site and I think it stinks. When contacted about this problem, the person on the other end acted like I was wasting his time. There's never been a time in history where information was so easy to get and now we must ask the question, what do I believe about copyrights? Do I believe that it's wrong to lift information exactly as someone else put it down?
