Google updates and fear...

Whenever Google does an update to their index or changes the algorithm, search results change, sometimes dramatically. This shouldn't be any surprise to anyone, they need to update things from time to time to get the most relevant results as they see it. Of course, this strikes fear in the heart of a lot of website owners who depend on Google as a source of leads and income. This should never be the case!

Google is just one of many search properties, although it is the biggest one. Anyone who bases their entire online success on Google should have their head examined. If that's what the strategy is then you will worry over any little change that occurs.

With all the changes coming with the search engines, personalization being one, website owners should stop looking at how something does on Google but rather how the end user likes it. Is it relevant to searchers? Does it fill a need? When focused on these things, then no matter what breaking news comes down the pike, website owners should be able to weather the storm.
